The Two Main Types of Liposuction and a Few Facts

Losing weight is something that many of us think about on an almost daily basis. One way to get rid of it, however, is through liposuction. This essentially helps to smooth the appearance of the body again. However, it is not a weight loss method, but rather a body contouring one.

Facts about Liposuction

Liposuction was first introduced in 1979, and it has changed tremendously since then. Liposuction has always been a much safer option than for instance the tummy tuck. However, this does not mean that it is risk-free and you need to make sure that you understand the procedure before deciding to have it done.

When done right, liposuction essentially helps to shrink the skin. An experienced surgeon is able to create a beautiful lower abdomen shape as a result. You, as a patient, must also be a good candidate. This means you must have elastic and firm skin with just a few pockets of excess fat. Liposuction is usually done on an outpatient basis, unless over 5 liters of fat are removed, in which case you will need to stay overnight.

Liposuction can be performed on the stomach, but also on the thighs and buttocks. If people have pock marks or wrinkling, they may need a further procedure to resolve this. Let’s take a look at the two main methods of liposuction.

1. Ultrasonic Liposuction

In Fort Worth TX liposuction is often performed through ultrasonic, a procedure known as UAL. It is a two-step method that uses energy created by sound waves to turn fat into liquid before suctioning it away. UAL is often used for large volumes and particularly for difficult areas such as the hips, flanks and back. Ultrasonic energy is often applied externally, after which the actual liposuction happens to suck the fat itself away. It is not a replacement of traditional liposuction, in other words, but rather an addition to the procedure itself. The results are exactly the same.

2. Tumescent Liposuction

This is one of the biggest improvements in the field of liposuction itself. The procedure has been developed by Dr. Tumescent, after which it is named. Tumescent liposuction is becoming more and more popular, mainly because it is said to be one of the safest methods around today. Indeed, many surgeons who use ultrasound will use Tumescent procedures for the actual fat removal. Indeed, since the procedure was first offered, the safety records of this method have been incredibly high. Very few reports of complications have been filed and patients report faster recovery times, less pain and discomfort and better overall results. One of the reasons for this is because much less bleeding happens.

If you are considering having liposuction done, it is very important to speak to a consultant first. If it is decided that you are a good candidate, you will be given numerous preoperative instructions that you must follow in order for the procedure to be a success. Postoperative instructions will also be provided and are equally important.
