Tips to taking care of your aging eyes – Protect your eyesight and vision

Sight is one of the most vital senses of our body and we rely on our sight to safely experience the entire world and properly communicate with others. Maintaining healthy eyes is the key to preserving the good quality life as the years keep passing by. If you’re aware of the statistics, you will know that eye diseases are gradually on the rise in the US and it is all set to have an impact on more than 50 million people by the end of 2020. With that in mind, don’t you think you need to take good care of your eyes so that you don’t have to face vision problems when you age? Well, if answered yes, here are some tips that you may follow.

  1. Get regular eye checkups done: Beginning at the age of 40, you should start getting annual eye exams done so that you can allow your doctor to look for some signs of glaucoma or retinal damage. Even though you might be healthy enough with no such serious vision problems, you might still have some medical conditions which raise the risk of eye disorders. Depending on the risk issues and the initial findings of your exam, you should ask your doctor to recommend the intervals of screening.
  2. Wear goggles more often: The ultra-violet rays of the sun may damage our eyes, especially when they’re aging. The more you expose your eyes to UV rays, the more they’re prone to cataract and possibly more macular degeneration. Hence, the best way in which you can safeguard your eyes from the ultraviolet rays of the sun is by having UV filters to your sunglasses.
  3. Wear a hat when you’re under the sun: Whenever you’re at the outdoors for a long period of time, make sure you wear a hat, wide-brimmed one so that you don’t allow too much sunrays to fall on your face and your eyes. Although sunglasses will help you but if you wear a hat, that will give you added protection. Make sure you protect your skin from melanomas and remember that your eyelid is the most common spot for developing these diseases.
  4. Consume multivitamins: Vitamin A, E and C are promoted to enhance the health of your eyes. 50 years back, doctors used to always say that if people ate normal food, they would never have to take supplements. However, the soil that we have today is not as rich as before and hence we don’t get enough nutrition even when we eat properly. Therefore, choose a multi-vitamin and be sure about getting one which can satisfy all the requirements of your age.

Apart from the points mentioned above, you should also stop smoking if you’re a smoker as it has a bad impact on your skin and eyes. For dark circles and other issues, you can apply haloxyl eye serum or some good quality eye cream in order to fight against aging.
